Paragard is a removeable T-shaped flexible plastic wrapped in copper wire inserted by a qualified medical professional. The device works by continually releasing small amounts of copper into the uterus which is believed to help to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg, which prevents pregnancy.
Lawsuits have been filed due to the device breaking either while in the patient or upon removal of the device.
